During a panic attack, anxious feelings are sudden and overwhelming. The symptoms can be so intense that it can
make you feel like you are having a heart
attack. The fear of having a heart attack
can then add to your sense of panic. But
these symptoms - such as a racing heart or
shortness of breath - will will not harm
you. The symptoms normally peak within 10
minutes. Most attacks last for 5 to 30 minutes.
Tips
Try the self-help leaflets in the DIY section.
By the way, caffeine can produce some of
these symptoms too, so check the amount you
are drinking. Try not to drink caffeine after
about 3.00pm.
To avoid hyperventilation which causes many
of the unpleasant symptoms of panic, reduce
your oxygen intake by breathing through a
cloth or a paper bag.
