                    Stress and anxiety

                    Picture
Stress is the way that you feel when pressure is placed on you. A little bit can fire you up, give you motivation, and help you to perform better. Too much or pressure over a long time can make you mentally and physically ill.

When faced with a stressful situation, the body releases “fight or flight” hormones, preparing us to deal with threatening situations. Once these threats were predators. These days, it's more likely to be exams, difficult relationships, tough times at work or financial worries. We react the same way – our whole bodies on the alert. The first thing we notice is the often alarming physical symptoms - palpitations, rapid heart beat, sweating or a shortness of breath.

The hormones get used up when we run away from the threat or rattle our sabre. But in our modern world, we are under constant pressure and the hormones linger in our bodies and the uncomfortable anxiety hangs around. Over the long term, this can impair the immune system. If anxiety is your constant companion, email me sorted@carolinebrowntherapy.com and learn how to feel better again.
